ALFONS PAWEL KAMIENIARZ Peacefully after a brief illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Alfons, at the age of 82 years. Survived by his wife, Gisela; sons, Ralph (Sandra Bergquist), Roman and Peter; daughters, Patty Hiley (husband Bob and children, Alana, Robert and Derek) and Linda DeStefano (husband Nick). Born in Chobienice, Poland in 1922, Alfons was predeceased by his father Roman Kamieniarz; mother Agniezka Kramarek; and brother Leon. Alfons was a talented and passionate soccer player and musician. He served as a Sergeant in the Polish and German armies during the Second World War and was also a prisoner of war. Soon after the war, he met his wife of 51 years and together started their life together in Mannheim, Germany. Alfons' deep desire to provide a better life for his family resulted in him immigrating to Red Lake, ON from Germany in 1959 to work in the town's coal mine. Shortly after, his wife and three sons joined him to start their new life in Canada. It was here that he became an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. In 1964, he relocated his family to Winnipeg where he worked with a number of different companies until his retirement in 1991. He was grateful for the numerous opportunities he had to revisit his family in Poland. His friendly, humourous and outgoing personality always attracted people to him. He was a gifted musician who was talented in various instruments. Alfons played for both the Polish and German bands in Winnipeg. He enjoyed reading and was especially fond of history. Alfons loved to give family members impromptu quizzes on languages, history, mathematics and geography. He always enjoyed the simple things in life, time with his family, good food, good friends and good music. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time watching soccer and hockey games and hearing about his grandchildren's activities. Even during his difficult battle, he was always upbeat and with a great sense of humour. His attitude and outlook, until the very end, was both courageous and admirable. A private family funeral service will be held Thursday, June 30. Our family would like to thank all the nurses and staff of the 5th floor at the Grace Hospital for their care and kindness. We are very proud of you and we're going to miss you, Papa. WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
